Davey Awards

With a fast-growing portfolio of internationally recognized work, a small ad agency in Chapel Hill can only be so humble.

Rivers Agency received three International Davey Awards in 2012, which recognize small firms for their big ideas. This year, our agency was commended for our creativity on three different platforms: mobile site, online website, and catalog. Sponsored by the International Academy of the Visual Arts — a “Who’s Who” of acclaimed media, advertising and marketing firms — the Davey Awards program is the largest and most prestigious awards competition for the small but ambitious “Davids” of creativity.

Rivers took the gold for our Biltmore Wines mobile site, which enabled the country’s most visited winery to become accessible virtually anywhere. The mobile site provides a wine and food-pairing guide, tasting videos, and a convenient store locator.

In addition, Rivers received a silver Davey for The Rite of Spring at 100 website design, which strategically engages the viewer with media-rich content and a powerful layout that captures the Carolina Performing Arts’ vision. The website is an integral piece of the year-long centennial commemoration of the 1913 premiere of the renowned Stravinsky ballet taking place at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2013.

Lastly, Rivers received a silver Davey for the Elegance and Extravagance Ackland Catalog for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Ackland Art Museum. The sophisticated catalog design perfectly complements the striking Japanese postwar graphics of contemporary artist Merrill C. Berman.

We are proud of our accomplishments and thank the International Academy of the Visual Arts for our awards, as they reflect our strength in stylistic design, multi-faceted approaches and big ideas both online and in print. Although small in size, our peers in the design community agree: We’re kind of a big deal.
