When retired Chapel Hill editor Wyndham Robertson wanted to cover the walls of her foyer with favorite sayings and quotes from her life, she knew just where to turn — to us. Rivers Agency designer Claire Blevins creatively laid out the text and had it printed on large vinyl sheets that were transposed onto the foyer’s three walls. The result — as personable and unique as Wyndham herself — was recently featured in the January/February issue of Chapel Hill Magazine.

“We had been looking for a wallpaper or something to make this area different from the living room, and we couldn’t find anything we liked,” Wyndham said in the article. “So one night I just wrote down some sayings from my life.” Rivers Agency took the text and had it printed on large vinyl sheets that were transposed onto the foyer’s three walls. The effect is, as the article describes, “spunky yet elegant.”

Lauren Rivers was the only person who “got it,” Wyndham said about the graphics challenge. “She put a designer to work on it, who laid it out on a computer. Lauren Rivers is a real pro and a real asset to our community.”

The quotes Wyndham chose for her text wallpaper range from an excerpt from the beloved Emily Dickinson poem, “I Heard A Fly Buzz — When I Died,” to popular song lyrics and the motto of Hollins University, her alma mater.

Wyndham moved to Chapel Hill in 1986 to become UNC’s vice president for communications after spending years in New York working as Fortune magazine’s first female assistant managing editor. A native of Salisbury, North Carolina, Wyndham now lives at The Cedars retirement community. We’re delighted to have played a part in making Wyndham’s cottage her home.
